About me
My name is Annah Creech, and I am finishing my 28th year as a math educator. I enjoy teaching math and working with students and teachers. I consider myself to be a lifelong learner and a reflective teacher and coach. Every few years, something comes along and reenergizes my love for teaching. The most recent bolt was joining a book club offered through NCDPI about trauma and its effects in the math classroom. The book, What Happened to You? Conversations on Trauma, Resilience, and Healing" by Bruce D. Perry and Oprah Winfrey, combines brain research with how the effects of trauma can impact the learners we teach daily. Our book club presented virtually to DPI and in person at the Fall NCCTM conference. I would like to share some of my findings and experiences implementing the practices and my own reflections into the population that I teach and discuss the changes I have made to impact student achievement and make school a place that students are more comfortable, and even excited, to learn.
